M42, the healthcare subsidiary of AI conglomerate of Abu Dhabi-based G42, has unveiled two new open-access versions of Med42 LLM. The two models Med42 v2 8B and Med42 v2 70B, mark a significant advancement in AI-driven healthcare solutions. The models are hosted on Hugging Face, and aims to democratise access to medical expertise and cater to the nuanced preferences of healthcare professionals.
Built on Meta’s LLaMA-3 architecture, the Med42 v2 models have been meticulously fine-tuned for instruction and preference, enhancing their ability to provide accurate medical insights while meeting stringent industry standards. Last year, the company released the Med42 70B model which had over 8200 downloads from the Hugging face community.
Superior Medical Model
Key features of the Med42 v2 models include advanced medical question answering, patient record summarization, and support for diagnostic processes. M42 also plans to publish datasets, a code repository, and a comprehensive research paper detailing their new evaluation framework for clinical LLMs. This initiative aims to standardise the assessment of AI models in healthcare, ensuring reliability and accuracy in medical applications.
Performance evaluations indicate promising results for Med42 v2 70B, surpassing benchmarks set by comparable models such as Meta LLaMA-3 70B Instruct and GPT-4o. According to preliminary Elo Ratings, the model achieves zero-shot accuracy score of 85.1% and a maximum accuracy score of 87.3% using specialised prompts for the USMLE.

G42 Spearheads AI Mission
The UAE conglomerate G42 has been accelerating AI innovations over the last year with strategic partnerships with big tech companies such as Microsoft. The partnership looks to focus on expanding AI tools and skillin initiative in the UAE and other countries.
The company is dipping its feet in all major verticals including supercomputers too with their strong partnership with Cerebras Systems. The companies together last announced Condor Galaxy 3, which was the latest addition to their AI supercomputing constellation.
