OpenAI’s ChatGPT has now officially launched ChatGPT Plus in India. ChatGPT Plus is a new and paid version of ChatGPT that aims to improve the AI experience for users during rush hours. On February 1, 2023, OpenAI had launched ChatGPT Plus, which was available only in the US.
Available at $20/month which is roughly (INR 1650), the model has faster response rate and priority access to new features and improvements. The company said that it is also exploring options for lower-cost plans, business plans, and data packs for wider availability.
“We love our free users and will continue to offer free access to ChatGPT. By offering this subscription pricing, we will be able to help support free access availability to as many people as possible,” the company said in its blog post. With ChatGPT Plus now available in India, OpenAI might be looking for conversions—– from free to paid users.
The Microsoft-backed company released ‘ChatGPT Professional’ in January 2023 at $42 every month. But soon took the “experimental” subscription model down. There has been no announcements about this ever since.
ChatGPT Professional had access to the same features as ChatGPT Plus, but at a lower rate.
The company informs that ChatGPT Plus has benefits like no blackout windows and faster responses with no throttling. The premium version is also said to deliver as many messages as you want and priority access to new features and improvements.
OpenAI’s web traffic touched 672 million visits in February, mere three months after the launch in November 2022. Visits have exploded to over 36 times in the span of just two months. ChatGPT controls over 92p per cent of total website traffic.
Interestingly, 1/5th of all users—— an estimated 73.9 million visits were recorded from India and the US—- with around 11% share each. Other countries majorly visiting the website were France, Canada, and Germany.
Earlier this month, OpenAI introduced the ChatGPT API. The API is powered by their latest AI model GPT3.5-turbo, and priced at $0.002 per 1k tokens, making it 10x cheaper than their existing GPT models.
